8 Week Color & Design Workshop
COLOR ME CREATIVE!
The
dual focus of this painting/mixed media course is to encourage students'
creativity while developing their understanding of the three properties
of color: hue, value, and intensity. The manner in which color is
used to build strong composition and assist in creating the illusion
of three dimensions within a two dimensional picture plane is emphasized.
Students will learn that red, yellow, and blue are required in order
to make every color we see around us. Learning how to make those
“mystery” colors, such as brick red, wheat, sand at
the beach, the dusky blue-green of a distant mountain (all without
using black!) increases a child's vocabulary “ready made”
bottles of tempera paint found in the classroom and opens their
eyes to the richness and subtle color distinctions in the world
around us. Since we cannot build a strong painting with color alone,
projects will simultaneously introduce and explore the art elements
of line, shape, texture, and value as well as the principles of
design. Masterworks are used to illustrate these concepts. Projects
are designed to provide students of ll ability levels with enough
information to feel successful and enough freedom to entice their
own unique and inherent creativity to emerge.
